The tell

A dark grey-green muddy matrix with ANGULAR fragments of all sorts scattered through it at random. Puddingstone is white with red.

It is a frozen glacial mud from an ice age 2.3 billion years ago. The fragments are what that glacier was carrying. It is a snapshot of a moraine older than complex life.
